As a part of Tornado Awareness Month, the Jackson Weather Examiner will review severe storms that affected the state throughout the month of November.
On this date -November 17th:
In 1957, an 70 yard wide, F-2 tornado tracked 13 miles across Noxubee County, killing 2 people and injuring 2 others. Another 70 yard wide F-2 tornado was confirmed to have tracked 2 miles in Lowndes County, causing $250,000 in property damage.
In 1968, 3 tornadoes were reported with two F-2 tornadoes in Lawrence County.
In 1993, there were several reports of flooding and high winds across the state.
- Several homes were flooded in Rankin County in the city of Puckett, causing $50,000 in property damage.
- Many roads and underpasses were flooded in Simpson, Lauderdale, Newton and Smith Counties.
- Trees and power lines were blown down in Clarke, Covington, and Lauderdale Counties.
