The Mississippi State mascot was accidentally hit by a golf cart on the field of the Mississippi State vs. Ole Miss game this weekend. On Dec. 1, Fox Sports reported that "Bully," the team's mascot, was run over by the ESPN TV golf cart. The female student dressed as Bully had to be taken off the field on a stretcher.
"The student in the mascot suit suffered a compound fracture and had to have surgery on the injury that night, according to SB Nation. For those who don't remember health class, a compound fracture is when the bone goes through the skin," Fox Sports reported.
The Mississippi State mascot is expected to be okay but his injury is very serious. She is lucky, however, that his injuries weren't worse. One can't help but imagine that the thickness of his "costume" may have helped cushion some of the weight of the golf cart.
At this time it is unclear how the driver of the golf cart didn't see the mascot -- the large fluffy thing walking around the sidelines was pretty hard to miss. It's unknown whether or not the police are involved or if an investigation is being conducted. It's clear that this was an accident but it's important that things like this be investigated to help prevent future accidents.
The Mississippi State mascot can just be seen in the photo above. She was on a stretcher at the time someone snapped the photo.
