Mississippi man thought to be dead wakes up inside of a body bag

Fortunately, most people will never wake up inside a body bag, but an elderly Mississippi man knows otherwise. ABC News reported a remarkable story about a man who had died and woke up inside a body bag on Thursday. On Wednesday, the coroner’s office pronounced Walter Williams, 78, a Mississippi man, dead at 9 p.m.

After his inaccurate death report, Williams was transported to the Porter and Sons Funeral Home inside a body bag.

As mortuary staff members prepared Williams for embalming, he began kicking inside the body bag. Williams was then rushed to the hospital after mortuary staff realized he wasn’t dead. The coroner’s office says that Williams’ pacemaker may have stopped working, which created the impression that Williams had died.

Williams’ nephew, Eddie Hester, told WAPT News:

“I stood there and watched them put him in a body bag and zipped it up.”

Family members were relieved to learn that Williams’ was still alive. Read more about this story at the WAPT News site.
