Tom Cruise is an actor and film producer who has been nominated for three Academy Awards and won three Golden Globe Awards. His first leading role was the 1983 film Risky Business. 1986's Top Gun was followed by his role as a secret agent in a series of Mission: Impossible action films in the 1990s and 2000s.
In addition to heroic roles Cruise played other parts such as the guru in Magnolia (1999) and a cool and calculating sociopathic hitman in the Michael Mann crime-thriller film Collateral (2004).
Cruise began acting after being sidelined from his high school's wrestling team due to a knee injury. While injured, he successfully auditioned for a lead role in his high school's production of Guys and Dolls and decided to become an actor after his success in the role. His cousin William Mapother is also an actor most known for playing Ethan Rom on Lost.

Tom Cruise's film roles are endless through current day. Jumping up to the 2000s, Cruise has been cast in Tropic Thunder (2008) with Ben Stiller and Jack Black, and that same year he worked on the historical thriller Valkyrie.
In addition to his full acting career, Cruise has worn the hat of producer as well. His first projects as producer were Mission: Impossible (1996), Without Limits (1998), The Others (2000), The Last Samurai (2004)...
According to PopWatch.EW, on February 10, 2010, it is official, Tom Cruise, as Ethan Hunt, has signed on to do the next Mission: Impossible sequel!
