A 67-year-old woman who was reported missing was found dead down an embankment behind her home in Canton, officials said Tuesday.
Around 9:30 p.m. Monday, deputies responded to River View Court after getting a report of a missing person, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.
They were told Ms. Mary Paulk had not been heard from since noon on Monday, the sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Jay Baker said in a news release Tuesday.
“A search was conducted around the home and deputies discovered a golf cart on its side down an embankment behind the home,” Lt. Baker said. “Ms. Paulk was discovered deceased under the golf cart.”
So far, the official cause of the woman’s death has not been determined, but investigators said they do not suspect foul play.
Still, they have not released any details on the circumstances surrounding the elderly woman’s death and it's unclear how steep is the embankment behind her home.
