The worst possible news came yesterday for the family of a Hampstead, N.C. veteran. The body of former U.S.M.C. James Salvatore Kalitz, 31, missing since Saturday, was found in Pender County.

Local officials say his death is not suspicious. They did not say his death was considered a suicide at this time. An investigation is pending.

Kalitz, who was said to be suffering from depression and post-traumatic stress disorder, was last seen in the vicinity of Independence Mall in Wilmington. Searchers cancelled their efforts in Hampstead yesterday.

The Facebook page, Find James Kalitz USMC Veteran, set up to help locate the missing former Marine has now switched focus to condolences for the family. The PayPal account established to help fund the search, according to the Facebook page, will now be used to assist the former Marine’s family.

The family would like to thank everyone for their support and efforts in the search to find “Jimmy”. They are requesting privacy as they deal with the loss of their family member and their Marine.
