A missing Kansas man spent his dying days writing letters to his family. The missing Kansas man vanished from his Manhattan home back in early September and it wasn’t until October 18 that his wrecked vehicle was discovered in the Arizona desert. According to a report from Wednesday (Oct. 30), David Welch spent his final days penning love letters to his wife of 32 years and their four sons.
Authorities report that his vehicle likely went off the road and into a ravine after he fell asleep at the wheel. The van flipped on to its side and pinned him inside, trapping him in an area that isn’t frequented by very much traffic. It is because of how deserted the area was that nobody saw the vehicle for the next 46 days. It wasn’t until a hiker saw the wreckage that anyone even knew it was there.
There are quite a few mysteries about the death of this missing Kansas man, including why he was heading out to Arizona in the first place. Investigators still aren’t sure how long he was alive in the vehicle either, raising questions about whether he was able to keep himself alive for an extended period of time. Help did not come, though, bringing a tragic end to the life of David Welch.
