Missing Autistic teen found: Update

An Amber alert has been cancelled for Autistic teen Kayla Burgess. Burgess had last been seen around 2:30 pm on Monday afternoon at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, KY.

Kayla, who has Autism and requires medication, had been missing for almost 24 hours. Police found her at the WPSD Studios, a local news station in Paducah, around 1 pm on Tuesday.

UPDATE:

Kayla Burgess was recognized by a reporter at WPSD Studios as she was walking on the sidewalk. Reporter Julie Collins believed she recognized Kayla and convinced the girl to get in her car. At the studio Collins called the police, while Burgess explained that it had all been a mistake.

Burgess had gone home with friends. In the morning when she tried to call her aunt, whom she lived with, Kayla found that her cell phone battery had died. Her friends informed her that Facebook said she was missing.

Kayla was interviewed by police and reunited with her family.
