Missile Launch From Phoenix, Arizona?

On 5 May, 2011, two crypto-zoologists (Alex Hearn and I) caught a very unusual event.  They were returning to Mesa, Arizona from an expedition from the mountains north Globe area on US 60.  As they came down through the Queen Creek Canyon they witnessed a silver disk pass from one side of the canyon entrance to the other.  They figured it had to be some kind of helicopter.  Proceeding on through Superior, continued their journey.  They had just passed Florence Junction and was about to cross the Queen Creek wash when they spotted the contrail.  Immediately, they pulled off the road and broke out the cameras.  They were able to catch most of the event on video.

From their vantage point on US 60 they could clearly see the rocket plume rising from the desert floor somewhere between them and the San Tan Mountains in the distance.  This would place the launch near the town of Queen Creek.  This was a missile and not a rocket from some science club.  As the missile passed over their heads, they could make out the body which had swept wings.  Again, something very strange and not expected.  A few moments, the vehicle disappeared and no longer left a contrail to follow.  It had either expended all of its fuel, or passed into space.

The video of the launch was placed on You-Tube later that day.  It caught the local TV news attention simply because Phoenix does not have launch facilities in its suburbs.  The News Media was able to contact the military, and was told that it was a launch from the National Guard Range just north of the city of Florence.

This satisfied the media’s curiosity.  However, the statement was incorrect.  The National Guard Range is in the wrong direction from the actual launch. The camera does not lie.  In the video you can clearly see the missile plume and the San Tan Mountains in the background.  Since when does the National Guard fire missiles?  Something does not ring true here.

There were two cameras capturing the launch.  The first camera operated by Mitch does not zoom in on the final moments of when the plume ceases and the vehicle disappears. The first video is displayed with this article.  The second camera operated by Alex shows something quite different.  There was a second vehicle which appears to be on a collision course.  You can view this second video at

Phoenix is known for its UFO lights.  Was this an attempt to shoot one down?
