The Miss World 2013 results are in, and a winner has been crowned, according to a Sept. 28 BBC News report. Miss Philippines Megan Young was crowned Miss World 2013 becoming the first Miss World from the Philippines.
The Miss World 2013 results were announced in Bali, Indonesia. Megan Young said,
"Thank you so much to everyone for choosing me to be the next Miss World. I promise to be the best Miss World ever."
This is a wonderful opportunity for the American-born Miss World. She moved to the Philippines at the age of 10, and she has starred in movies and TV shows in the nation. Now she is a digital filmmaking student, and she aspires to be a director once she finishes school.
At the last moment, the Miss World 2013 pageant's venue was changed from Jakarta to Bali after protests from the Islamic Defenders Front. Even so, Muslim groups continued to protest the pageant. The good news is that the Miss World 2013 pageant went on as planned with no major problems, so that is excellent news for all the contestants and for Indonesia.
Miss Philippines Megan Young beat out 126 other contestants to become Miss World 2013. Miss France, Marine Lorphelin was the first runner up, and Miss Ghana, Carranzar Naa Okailey Shooter was the second runner up in the beauty pageant.
The pageant was broadcast on TV around the world to 180 countries.
