A former Miss Venezuela and her British husband have been shot and killed in South America while attempting to resist a robbery. Yahoo News reported on Jan. 7, 2014, that both Monica Spear Mootz and Thomas Henry Berry have indeed died while trying to fend off robbers.
The 29-year-old Spear and 49-year-old Berry were shot late on Monday night near Puerto Cabello, Venezuela's main port.
Prosecutors released a statement confirming the death of the popular soap opera actress and her husband.
The couple's five-year-old daughter is said to be in stable condition after getting medical attention. She is said to have been shot in the leg during the robbery.
The former Miss Venezuela lives in the United States with her family, but they had traveled to South America for a vacation. Their bodies were found in their Toyota sedan along with their daughter. The girl is now in the protection of the police.
Monica Spear Mootz was crowned Miss Venezuela in 2004 and represented her country at the Miss Universe pageant in 2005. From there, she went on to become an actress and find her husband, who was said to have been an entrepreneur.
Their deaths are currently under investigation.
