Miss Spain comes out, becomes first openly gay beauty queen

As the former Miss Spain comes out of the closet to protest her love to her partner on Instagram, reports suggest that Patricia Yurena Rodríguez has made a bit of history, becoming the first openly gay beauty queen.

Like many other public figures of late, Rodriguez came out by posting an image of her girlfriend laying on top of her on Instagram. The extremely intimate photo, which features the former Miss Spain looking into the eyes of her lover while lying on her back in bed, immediately went viral.

As expected, there has been an overwhelming amount of support for Rodriguez. But, with the Internet trolling age that we live in, there of course have been those that have tried to disparage Rodriguez or suggest that she had no right to post the photo.

Despite any negativity that may have come her way, Rodriguez recently took to social media again to thank the fans that are behind her for their unwavering support.

Despite only being 24-years-old, Rodriguez won Miss Spain in 2008 and in 2013. She would eventually go on to compete in the Miss Universe pageant. And while she didn’t win Miss Universe (located at Moscow), she did finish as a runner-up.

Ironically, Moscow’s Miss Universe pageant caused a bit of controversy due to Russia’s anti-gay laws.
