Miss South Carolina Ali Rogers won the first night of swimsuit competition, the Miss America Organization announced Wednesday in a news release.
She won a $1,000 scholarship from Amway for finishing first.
Rogers wore a white swimsuit with gold embellishments manufactured by Catalina.
Rogers won the preliminary swimsuit competition at the state level before being crowned Miss South Carolina 2012.
She is a 20-year-old resident of Laurens who entered the state pageant as the reigning Miss Laurens County.
Rogers is a pageant veteran. The Miss America Pageant is her second national pageant. In 2009, she was crowned Miss South Carolina’s Outstanding Teen and won the right to represent her state at the 2010 Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Pageant.
She finished in the Top 10 at the national teen pageant.
Rogers was graduated from Laurens District 55 High School.
She is a communications major at Clemson University.
Her academic honors include being a P.W. McAllister Full Scholarship recipient, being appointed to the Dean's List, and serving on the Academic Advisory Board and as a College Representative.
Her ambition is to earn a master’s degree in communications and own a public relations firm.
Her talent at the Miss America Pageant is as a pianist, and her personal platform is “Make a Difference.”
A new Miss America will be crowned on Jan. 12. The final night of competition and crowning will be broadcast live on the ABC television network.
