The 31st annual “Gathering of Nations” PowWow (GON) runs April 24 - 26, 2014 in the University of New Mexico “Pit” arena at Albuquerque, N.M. Advance ticket sales ended on Tuesday April 22. Tickets will be sold at the door of the “Pit” beginning Thursday April 24 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets will also be sold on April 25 (Friday) & 26 (Saturday) starting at 9 a.m. The upper club level seating is sold out.
The “Miss Indian World Pageant 2014” is already under way which began on Tuesday April 22 for all contestants. Tickets for the pageant competition on Thursday April 24 is $14 for general admission. It will be held at the downtown Albuquerque convention center at 7 p.m. Doors will open at 5:45 p.m. The crowning of the new “Miss Indian World” will be on Saturday April 26 at 7:30 p.m., in the “Pit” arena.
According to the official GON website, “The Miss Indian World Pageant is the largest and most prestigious cultural pageant for young Native Women. Each contestant will compete in the areas of, public speaking / personal interview / traditional presentation / dance & essay.”
“Each category is judged based on the contestants' own cultural knowledge. Miss Indian World will spend her year traveling extensively throughout the USA, Canada and Internationally. Travel may be more or less than previous years depending on requests.”
“Miss Indian World is a role model to young and old and help to educate and demonstrate the beauty and diversity of Native American culture as well as represent the Gathering of Nations throughout her travels.”
The “Miss Indian World Pageant” hosts are, Lisa Meeches from Winnipeg, Manitoba & Jason Whitehouse from Madison Heights, Michigan. Inuk & Inuit singer & songwriter Susan Aglukark will provide the evening entertainment.
