Miss Florida USA 2011, Lissette Garcia, from Paradise Valley, competed in her swimwear by Kandy Wrappers and fashion footwear by Chinese Laundry during the 2011 Miss USA Presentation Show at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino Theatre for the Performing Arts in Las Vegas.
Lissette will be one of the first to surrender her crown this year.
This year’s Miss Florida USA is set for July 11-16 at Bailey Concert Hall in Davie.
A native of Miami, Lissette in her early years spoke Spanish only.
She lived with her grandmother, who was taken from her by ovarian cancer.
She dedicated her life to the health profession and is a physician’s assistant.
“She is my force and the enthusiasm I have in my life, she always believed in me, that is why my passion is to find a cure for this disease and bring awareness about Ovarian Cancer to women of all ages,” she wrote on her blog.
“As an adult I became a cardiovascular technician, and a polysomnography technician. I continue to go to school to become a Physician Assistant,” she wrote.
