Pasadena, Calif. is one of the best spots for girl-watching this weekend as the Miss California USA Pageant gets under way Saturday in the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.
Preliminary competition in the swimsuit and evening gown categories begins Saturday at 7 p.m. PST. The pageant will be webcast live on the pay-per-view PageantVision.com.
Final competition begins on Sunday at 4 p.m. It will also be webcast live.
The Pasadena Hilton, where contestants are staying, is filled to capacity. More than 200 contestants from throughout the state are competing for the crown.
Winner of the Miss California USA Pageant will represent the state at the Miss USA Pageant. If she wins the national crown, she will represent the United States at the Miss Universe Pageant.
Six Miss California USA titleholders have gone on to become Miss USA. They are Miss California USA 1959 Terry Lynn Huntingdon, Miss California USA 1966 Maria Remenyi, Miss California USA 1975 Summer Bartholomew, Miss California USA 1983 Julie Lynne Hayek, Miss California USA 1992 Shannon Marketic and Miss California USA 2011 Alyssa Campanella.
The Miss Universe and Miss USA pageants are co-owned by Donald Trump and NBC Universal.
