Miss California USA and Miss California Teen USA were crowned this weekend in Long Beach, California, where hundreds of contestants competed for the titles in the areas of evening gown, swimsuit, and interview. Today the newly crowned titleholders visited KCAL-9 News, where they spoke about their winning moments.

Miss California USA, 20-year-old model and Beverly Hills native Cassandra Kunze, said that pageants are an opportunity for young women to communicate freely and express yourself onstage to an audience. She hopes to break the stereotypes portrayed in the media that pageants perpetuate a negative self-body image.

Miss California Teen USA, Biaynca Vierra, said one of the best things about pageants is preparing for interviews, since in high school and college you really don't get a lot of practice at it before interviewing for jobs.

When asked, both beauty queens said they eat at least 3 meals per day, sometimes more, and they enjoy snacking.

The first Miss USA and Miss Universe Pageants were also held in the City of Long Beach, back in 1952.

Miss California USA will go on to compete later this year in the Miss USA Pageant for the opportunity to represent the United States in the Miss Universe Pageant. Miss California Teen USA will represent California at the Miss Teen USA Pageant when the national competition is held later in 2014. The dates of both national pageants are still unannounced.
