There appeared to be fewer articles this year about the Miss America Pageant being a relic of another error, perhaps because it keeps growing in popularity as a TV special.
This year was no exception, with the Nielsen Company reporting on Sunday that the pageant has not been this popular since 2004.
"Building steadily throughout its two-hour telecast," Nielsen reported, "the numbers for The Miss America Competition surged by 2.3 million viewers and by 43 percent from its first half-hour to its final half-hour. During its final half-hour from 10:30-11 p.m., the Miss America Competition attracted 8.3 million viewers and a 2.0 rating, 5 share with young adults.
"In Total Viewers and Adults 18-49, ABC earned its strongest entertainment numbers in the time slot since April – since April 8, 2012 and April 27, 2012, respectively. Although facing big NFL competition each year, The Miss America Competition increased its overall audience (up six percent) for the second straight year on ABC to deliver the program’s most-watched broadcast since 2004."
