Pageant fans will have an opportunity on June 5 to chat live online with Miss America Nina Davuluri, pageant officials announced.
The chat is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET/11 a.m. PT on Google+.
Davuluri will discuss the Children’s Miracle Network, a charity that raises money for children’s hospitals.
One of Miss America’s responsibilities is to serve as goodwill ambassador for the network.
The network claims it has raised about $4.7 billion for children’s hospitals since 1983.
The money is distributed to about 170 hospitals in the United States and Canada.
Money is used for research, medical treatment, training, equipment purchases and other health-related projects.
The network estimates that more than 60 children enter the hospitals each minute.
Readers may locate the children’s hospital closest to them that receive help from the network by typing in their local zip code on CMN’s hospital search page.
Davuluri, 24, was crowned Miss America last September in Atlantic City.
At the time of the crowning, she was the reigning Miss New York. She advanced to the state pageant after being crowned Miss Syracuse.
Davuluri’s ambition is to study medicine and become a practicing physician.
A new Miss America will be crowned in September. The final evening of pageantry will be broadcast live on the ABC television network.
