Did Nina Davuluri, the dark-skinned beauty and the winner of Miss America 2014, have wise words for her attackers? Her tweets at her official Twitter, @NinaDavuluri, are protected. However, a new account @DavuluriNina, has received a lot of buzz. On Sept. 16, 2013 @DavuluriNina tweeted, "I'm not Arab, but even if I were, does it matter?" Did Nina Davuluri write those words?
Miss America Nina Davuluri has been targeted with racist tweets from highly ignorant people. Many of those tweets have been posted at various news sites.
Some people have called her non-American. Yet she was born in Syracuse, N.Y. to Indian parents, which makes her Indian-American.
Some people have called Miss America Nina Davuluri Muslim, and furthermore, a Muslim extremist. Yet, Nina is Hindu, and even if she were Muslim, not all Muslims are members of extremist groups such as Al-Qaeda.
Some people have called her Arab. Yet, India is in Asia, which means that Indians are Asian, not Arab.
If Nina Davuluri tweeted the words under the @DavuluriNina name, it wouldn't be surprising. Despite the racist and ignorant comments, Nina has risen above them to represent the position of Miss America 2014. "I'm so happy this organization has embraced diversity," said Nina.
