Miss America leads Omaha Heart Walk

Miss America 2011 Teresa Scanlan spent her weekend in her native state of Nebraska, leading a Heart Walk in Omaha.

Sponsored by the American Heart Association of Omaha, the event was intended to encourage people to live healthier lifestyles.

Scanlan welcomed participants from the stage and spoke on healthy eating, according to the Miss America Organization.

“Teresa had a great time and everyone was very excited, especially the children who had been heart patients and their families,” a pageant spokesperson said.

The American Heart Association of Omaha sponsors several programs to bring more awareness of health issues to the people of Nebraska.

On June 4, the association will sponsor the Power to End Stroke Walk, starting at 9 a.m. at Fontenelle Park Pavilion.
