Miss America contestant received hate mail after sharing mastectomy plan (Video)

It may seem hard to believe someone would send hate mail to any person thinking about having a double mastectomy, yet this is what happened to Allyn Rose, a Miss America contestant.

Allyn Rose, who is Miss District of Columbia, has shared that she will have a double mastectomy in an effort to prevent breast cancer. Miss Rose lost several family members to breast cancer, including her mother. Allyn Rose was just 16 when her mother died.

When explaining why she would have a double mastectomy to prevent breast cancer, the Miss America Pageant Contestant stated “For me, breast cancer is not a matter of if. It’s almost a matter of when”.

Double mastectomies are becoming more common as a choice to help prevent breast cancer. While some readers may not agree with such a decision, they may not be facing the cancer future Allyn Rose feels she is.

Women choosing a double mastectomy as a way to prevent breast cancer are also becoming more outspoken about their choice. Allyn Rose is not the first woman to tell others about a decision to have this surgery. Recently Sharon Osborne told television viewers she had made this decision because she felt it was the best choice for her.
