This Saturday night along with the other gorgeous and talented women, Miss Montana, Alexis Wineman will be up on stage with them.
Gorgeous and talented as well, Alexis will be the youngest contestant this year as well as being the first autistic woman to ever compete in the pageant.
Wineman was diagnosed t the age of 11 with autism and in an interview with Fox, she said this;
“For the longest time I just really wanted to know what was wrong with me, When I was finally diagnosed I felt like it came too late.”
She is now used to living with autism and says she has very mild symptoms, like struggling to communicate some times and she takes things too literally most of the time
She said in her video for the pageant that she wants to spread awareness about autism;
"Most people do not understand what autism is, And one in 88 people having some form of autism -- this understanding is becoming more and more necessary."
As a child she was never interested n the pageants she said, thinking she would never be able to do it because of the autism.
Her Miss America platform issue is called; "Normal Is Just a Dryer Setting: Living with Autism."
She will do a comedy routine in the talent competition of the pageant talking about women's body image.
In her video she says this;
"We cannot cure what is not a sickness, But we can begin to understand autism, and help those with the condition to unlock the potential that lies within all of us."
What an inspiration to all, and it seems like that is the theme for this years pageant as another young participant, Miss DC, Allyn Rose shared her story of how she will be getting a double mastectomy after losing her mom, and her family members to breast cancer.
You can watch Alexis and Allyn this Saturday night on ABC for the 2013 Miss America Pageant.
We wish them both the best of luck.
