On Wednesday, January 9, 2013 the second preliminary night of competition for this year's Miss America pageant took place. The competition was held at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.
Joanna Guy, Miss Maryland America took Wednesday night's preliminary Talent competition for her vocal performance of, "I Dreamed A Dream." As the winner of the talent competition, Joanna will receive a $2,000 Amway scholarship. Miss Illinois, Megan Ervin, also made great strides toward solidifying a spot in the semi-finals by winning the preliminary Lifestyle and Fitness competition in a black Catalina swimsuit. Megan will receive a $1,000 Amway scholarship.
In addition to the typical preliminary awards, the Children's Miracle Maker Awards were distributed last evening. This year's Miracle Maker Award recipients included the Miss Alabama Organization and the Miss Connecticut Organization. The Miss America contestant who raised the most funds was Miss South Carolina 2012 Ali Rogers.
The Miss America Organization is the world's largest provider of scholarship assistance for young women and one of the nation's leading achievement programs. The Miss America Organization distributed more than $45 million in scholarship assistance.
