Bryan, 22, is a resident of Decatur who is running for Miss America 2013 on her personal platform of “P.A.W.S. for Autism: People and Animals Working Side-by-side."
"She wrote and lobbied for Alabama House Bill 502 which addresses the need for service dogs in Alabama public schools," according to pageant officials. "She received two resolutions from the State Legislature for her platform work and was also featured in 'USA Today.'"
"Heart health is also a personal concern for me because all four of my grandparents suffered from some form of heart disease or stroke," Guy wrote on the Miss Maryland website. "That means I am at risk too. And that is why I 'take it to heart' by speaking, blogging and fundraising in support of heart health awareness. I speak regularly at health fairs, in classrooms and at civic club meetings about the simple steps everyone can take to minimize their risks."
Miss Tennessee 2012 Chandler Lawson earned a $2,000 college scholarship as second runner-up for her personal platform, "Feed Hope: Fight Child Hunger."
A new Miss America will be crowned on Saturday. The final night of competition and the crowning will be broadcast live on the ABC television network.
