Miss Alabama Chandler Champion, fellow University of Alabama student and Miss Michigan contestant Hayley Williams and current Miss America and Alabama native Mallory Hagan hit the Atlantic City Boardwalk during the traditional "Show Us Your Shoes" parade Saturday afternoon.
Hagan, who kicked off the parade, said she was looking forward to heading home to Alabama after she hands over the crown during Sunday night’s main event.
"I'm going to fly home to Alabama and spend a few days on my parents' couch," Hagan said during an interview segment.
As the first contestant in the lineup, Champion was sitting on a white convertible car in her University of Alabama-themed outfit with her leg in the air to show off her black football embellished pumps.
The outfit, a black, velvet jumpsuit featuring a houndstooth float with a national championship emblem on the back and the words “Roll Tide” down the front, may be hailed as a perfect choice after her favorite team’s nail biting win.
Champion’s seemingly over the top Roll Tide dress received negative comments after its reveal in a recent al.com photo shoot, but in retrospect may now be considered tame.
According to a pageant spokesman, some of the most notable outfits included: Miss Louisiana Jaden Leach in her Mardi Gras themed costume; Miss Florida Myrrhanda Jones with rhinestoned alligators on her feet; and Miss Arizona Jennifer Smestad who wore a large, glittery cactus on her shoe.
Williams’ shoes were embellished with a robin, Michigan's official state bird.
