Miss Alabama 2012 Anna Laura Bryan was named a semifinalist in Miss America’s Quality of Life scholarship program, pageant officials announced Thursday in an emailed news release.
Bryan is an advocate for "P.A.W.S for Autism: People and Animals Working Side-by-side."
"She wrote and lobbied for Alabama House Bill 502 which addresses the need for service dogs in Alabama public schools," according to her pageant biography. "She received two resolutions from the State Legislature for her platform work and was also featured in 'USA Today.'"
She is a "2012 graduate of Samford University with a bachelor of arts degree in interior design, and a 2008 honors graduate of Decatur High School," her biography states. "She intends to become a registered interior designer and work for an architecture firm."
Winners of the Quality of Life scholarships will be announced on Jan. 10.
The winner will receive a $6,000 scholarship, the first runner-up will win a $4,000 scholarship, and the second runner-up will win a $2,000 scholarship.
