Miriam Carey had post-partum depression according to her mom. Miriam Carey is the woman who was driving erratically around the Capitol, after crashing into a barricade near the White House on Oct. 3. According to ABC News, Carey is a 34-year-old dental hygienist from Stamford, Conn. She was shot and killed by police.

"She had post-partum depression after having the baby. A few months later, she got sick. She was depressed. ... She was hospitalized," said Carey's mother, Idella. The baby girl, 1, was in the car with Carey during her destructive jaunt in D.C. yesterday. The baby is now in "protective custody."

Miriam Carey's post-partum depression could be partially to blame for her erratic behavior. Even still Carey's mother said that her daughter did not have a history of violence and she had no clue that her daughter was in D.C. never mind planning such an ordeal. No weapons were found in Carey's car and a motive is still unclear. Some reports claim that Carey felt that the President was trying to communicate with her.

"I would never in a million years believe that she would do something like this. It's the furthest thing from anything I would think she would do, especially with her child in the car. I am floored that it would be her," said Carey's boss of 8 years, Dr. Steven Oken.

Miriam Carey's post-partum depression is making news today but this hasn't been confirmed by anyone aside from her mother.

It's unknown who will care for her baby girl.
