The Voice” wrapped up the first series of the battle rounds to narrow down the field of contestants taking a shot at winning it all. The Daily Mail reported on March 26, 2014 that Chris Martin will be stepping in as the new mentor for the singers that made it through the battle rounds so far.

Martin takes over as mentor for all four teams following Miranda Lambert who joined Team Shakira as mentor for the contestants on her team while Lambert’s husband Blake Shelton brought The Band Perry in as mentors for his team. Team Usher had Jill Scott on board and Adam Levine was joined by Aloe Blacc as the mentor for Team Adam.

Now the new twist comes in to play for NBC’s “The Voice” with another round of battles taking place with Coldplay’s Chris Martin joining in on the show. Martin said “It seems to have a positivity that’s engaging, so I’m really honored to be here” during the previews for the next episode of “The Voice.”

Martin steps into the mentoring role for the remaining contestants that will face each other. The person they will be competing against will be a surprise and the two competing singers must pick and agree on the song they will be singing together. Martin’s first appearance will happen on “The Voice” on March 31, 2014.

The news broke that Martin and his wife Gwyneth Paltrow announced they had “consciously uncoupled” by separating after 10 years of marriage on Paltrow’s website the same day “The Voice” spread the word about Martin joining the show as a mentor.

The couple addressed their children in the statement saying “We are parents first and foremost, to two incredibly wonderful children and we ask for their and our space and privacy to be respected at this difficult time. We have always conducted our relationship privately, and we hope that as we consciously uncouple and co-parent, we will be able to continue in the same manner.”
