Miranda Lambert is one in a slew of country acts that have been tapped to open for George Strait during his “The Cowboy Rides Away” farewell tour. Along with their California date, Miranda performed in Las Vegas on the sold-out tour the following evening. The “Automatic” singer will play George Strait’s final concert on June 7, 2014, with an all-star lineup including Faith Hill, Kenny Chesney, Eric Church, Vince Gill, and others.

At the recent San Diego show, George Strait invited Miranda to perform his hit “How ‘Bout Those Cowgirls” during his set. The crowd erupted in cheers as the reigning CMA and ACM Female Vocalist of the Year took the stage. The Texas natives also gave a new spin to George’s 2001 smash “Run.” In between songs, Miranda reminisced about seeing George live in concert when she was a teenager and expressed excitement about performing alongside the legend.

“I saw Strait Fest when I was fifteen. I got this boyfriend when I was 17 and he bought 12th row tickets for Texas Stadium. From the back row of Texas Stadium, to the 12th row, and now I’m standing here singing with the king. I just had to share,” Miranda exclaimed.

Miranda Lambert previously opened for George Strait on his 2006 arena tour. The pair will vie for Entertainer of the Year at the Academy of Country Music Awards in April. Miranda’s husband Blake Shelton, Taylor Swift, and Luke Bryan are also nominated for the top honor. Find a complete list of nominees here.
