Last November, five months before their wedding, Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton walked away from the CMA Awards with the top honors in their categories, Female Vocalist of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year. This November, now just five months after their wedding, the lovebirds are celebrating again. Wednesday night, November 9, 2011, Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert won the top male and female CMA awards for the second consecutive year.
When Reese Witherspoon announced Blake Shelton as the winner, he got a handshake from fellow nominee, Keith Urban and a hug from wife, Miranda Lambert. On stage, Blake Shelton then responded with, "You're spoiling me! I didn't prepare anything to say. I didn't think you'd let me get away with this two times." He went on to thank everyone who contributed to his success this past year and before leaving the stage, acknowledged the fans. "And thank you to all you freakin' crazy people out here," Shelton said with a wave toward the fan seats at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena. The crowd erupted in cheers and applause.
Not long after, Miranda Lambert's name was called as winner of the Female Vocalist of the Year award. She stood and faced Blake Shelton, putting her arms up in a gesture that implied she couldn't believe it was happening again. Her disbelief carried onto her first few moments onstage, where she opened with, "Seriously?" As she collected her thoughts, Miranda Lambert went on to say, "Thank you so much. I did not expect to get this at all." As the reality of their back to back wins sunk in, Miranda Lambert elicited laughs from the crowd, saying, "Congrats to my hubby too. It's gonna be a good night tonight, Baby!"
Though Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert may have had their own kind of celebration in mind, the on-screen celebration was fun to see. Back to back years and paired up awards for country music's favorite newlyweds; life couldn't get much sweeter for these two right now. Well, unless they were accompanied by the pitter patter of little future award winner feet, but that's a celebration for a different day...
