THE MIRAMAR CULTURAL CENTER/ARTSPARK CELEBRATES VISUAL ARTS THIS NOVEMBER.

MIRAMAR –  From the stage adaptation of Caldecott Award-winning picture books by Eric Carle to an art exhibit featuring photographs of rural Mexico by celebrated photographer Manuel Carrillo, the Miramar Cultural Center/ArtsPark celebrates the visual arts this November.

Continuing through January 8, 2012, photography from Transience: Manuel Carrillo’s Mexico will be on display in the Ansin Family Art Gallery.  The exhibit is comprised of photographs of rural Mexico from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s and reflect the country and photographer’s period of self-examination after the revolution.  The gallery is open Monday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia’s much anticipated new production A Brown Bear, A Caterpillar And A Moon: Treasured Stories By Eric Carle will be on Friday, November 18, 2011 at 10 a.m. as part of the Smart Stage Matinee Series and on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m as part of the Broward Center’s 2011-2012 Family Sun Series presented by the Miramar Cultural Center and Coventry Health Care of Florida.  Featuring evocative music, stunning visual effects and innovative puppetry, the performance brings together old favorite and new friends with The Very Hungry Caterpillar; Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?; and Papa, Please Get the Moon for Me.  Tickets for Friday’s Smart Stage Matinee Series performance are $6 for individual seats and $5.50 for groups of 10 or more with $3 lap tickets available for infants 12 months and under. 

Tickets for Saturday’s Family Fun Series performance are $15 in advance and $16 when bought the day of the performance with $3 lap tickets available for infants 12 months and under.  In a free event, children can read the book with Princess Reads-A-Lot at the Miramar Branch Library, on Tuesday, November 8 at 6 p.m. at the Miramar Branch Library located at 2050 Civic Center Place in Miramar.  For show tickets and information, call 954-602-4500  or select your seat online at www.miramarculturalcenter.org.  For group discounts call 954-462-0222.  Please note, Box Office Fees will apply.
