We hear this term used loosely, miracle. This was a miracle. This was a miracle child; or miracle baby. I just witnessed a miracle. Jesus performed miracles. Now you're probably wondering what does it mean.
Dictionary.com says, miracle is a noun. It is an effect or extraordinary event in the physical world that surpasses all known human or natural powers and is ascribed to a supernatural cause. It is such an event or effect manifesting or considered as a work of God. A wonder; marvel. A wonderful or surpassing example of some quality.
Therefore, I think about all the miracle moments and experiences I have witnessed in my life. I will share only a couple.
At a young age, around eight years old, I was with family in Chicago. I went with my sister and male cousins for a swim. My sister refused to get in the water, only peddling her feet in the water. My male cousins dared me to get in the pool. When someone dares me, I jumped in the three feet water, only about four feet and few inches but head stuck above the water. My sister left and after they swam a few laps. I decided to try to go under water and learn to swim. I thought of my father who was a Navy sailor and knew how to swim. He told me they just threw him in the water, deep in the ocean, and he swam for his dear life. I figured I could do the same, without realizing everyone left me at the pool alone. I somehow swam and sunk in six feet deep water. I held my breath and panicked when I opened my eyes under water. I kicked and swung my arms wildly, unable to get my head above the water. I could see the sky and sun shone on the water and on top of the pool area. I silently prayed to God, believing he would rescue me. No one was in sight! I put my arms to my sides and feet pushed upward. I closed my eyes and believed with all my might that God would save me. My head went above water and spit the water out of my lungs and nose, leaving a burning sensation in my nostrils and chest. While under water less than two minutes, my only recognition was that I felt the Spirit of God speaking to me and a glance of an angelic being as if I floated above the water. My head rose out of the water and was near the three feet water side, at least ten feet across from where I originally was, and gripped tightly on the concrete to rise out of the water. I choked up more water while slouched over. I knew since that day this was a miracle. I never told a soul but also God had a divine purpose for my life not to die that very day because of a dare or challenge. I thank God for a miracle moment.
At eighteen, my sister and I was living with my father in California. While sitting with my family at the dinner table, preparing for dinner to be served, a man busted the glass patio slide door with his body to get away from the police patrolling the area. Fear gripped me, and my family, while he fell over me and his blood splattered on my favorite white jersey shirt. My father ran to my rescue from the kitchen, ready to protect and fight the male stranger in his home. The man stumbled and fell on the living room floor and we all looked at him, he was in a disoriented state. He was either high or mentally ill, but he was running from the law enforcement. Before they raided our apartment, I prayed for this young man and he thanked me. I was grateful that he didn't physically hurt me or kill me, because we discovered he had a gun on him when he was reprimanded and arrested. I also made sure his blood didn't drip in my mouth or eyes, and tested for HIV later. This incident replayed for weeks in my head and had to throw away my favorite white jersey shirt, but blessed my life was spared since he was out of his mind from the high blood levels of crack in his system. He kept screaming how something was after him, and it wasn't the police he was speaking about. After this incident were a couple other life-threatening situations, but I know God protects his anointed and chosen for this season. I know we are handpicked for this season and this time; therefore, miracles are in the midst.
I've been blessed to author ten books, four radio shows in four years, educating others about the dream experience series teleclasses and speaking engagements, teaching adult Bible Study at Spirit Life Church (Milwaukee, WI), and helping others pursue their dreams in this season. DYRP Midnight Hour premieres on Fridays at 8 p.m. Central Time, is a virtual, tele-church style ministry where audiences can listen by phone, online, or archives on iTunes and Talkshoe (call ID:91725). In 2013, Lady Dee Dee 1 Mother in Christ Minster is the host of an extended show called 7-11 in Heaven to share the Good News of Jesus Christ, kingdom living, and heaven. She does a monthly program on Saturdays at 7 p.m. Central Time, on DYRP Midnight Hour, sharing the gospel with others with a burning passion to help others see the light.
Recently, I had an inward miracle. Although I am a dream pusher for others, it was time to pursue a long lived dream that I pushed aside for over eight years. I had others pray for me, asking God to strengthen my faith and confidence to step out of the boat like I've done with past ventures like radio and authoring books. My petitions and requests to God was to give me provision for His vision for my career outlook and future calling as an attorney. I've became disappointed and discouraged after pursing two degrees in the past, and neither my undergraduate or graduate degrees helped me land gainfully employed jobs that lasted over three years. After being unemployed on and off over the last eight years and only getting contracting jobs after obtaining my masters degree, I've been ridiculed, mocked, and verbally persecuted by past co-workers, family, and friends. Therefore, I asked God to order my steps in this decision. He clearly told me after completing my masters degree that I would be a counselor. In January 2005, I had an interview with the school board in the Counseling Psychology doctorate program and felt God was with me. I failed the interview and became greatly discouraged. I never was rejected from any degree program after going to one of the most challenging and private schools in Milwaukee, WI (Milwaukee School of Engineering, 1992). Months later, I asked God, "Didn't You tell me to go for counseling?" He told me to get the Thesaurus and look up the word counselor. It read, lawyer, attorney for the term counselor. Shortly later, my sister convinced me that this was always my dream since I was a young girl when I watched court related shows and movies. My eyes beamed with joy and heart felt relieved but feared the unknown at the same time.
So now I see how quickly I let time pass me by and felt I failed God. Consequently, in October 2012 while working a contracting job that only God set up, God told me what to expect in a couple months. He said, "BELIEVE!" First, I would be unemployed of which happened on December 28, 2012. Second, I would have to apply online for the law process to begin (LSAC.org) and request a fee waiver. I proceeded according to the voice of God as He promised a couple months prior. This process normally takes up to 45 days for a response, but I received an email that it was approved 7 days after mailing all the required documents. I shouted and praised the Lord, since this beginning process costs nearly $500 dollars. Next, I will be visiting 3-4 law schools in California and Tennessee for possible relocation spots. My father covered the travel expenses to fly to California in May, also as a birthday present for the two weeks visiting a law school there. After filing for my tax refund, I never had received this particular amount before but it covers the expense for taking a Kaplan course and surprisingly this month Kaplan is taking $200 dollars off their normal cost! I also have enough to travel to Tennessee to visit up to three schools for six days while there in April. This is only half of the battle, but I know God has more surprises and expecting more than I can ask for!
These are a series of miracles to me, and know that it's time to do what God has called me to do since the day I was born and as young as I can remember watching Judge Joseph Wapner from Los Angeles Superior Court on People's Court (now I love Judge Mathis and Judge Hatchett aside from former love of Judge Judy I watched in my early twenties). The People's Court is the first court show to use binding arbitration, introducing the format in 1981. The system has been duplicated by most of the show's successors in the judicial genre. Moreover, The People's Court is the first popular, long-running reality in the judicial genre. It was preceded only by a few short-lived realities. Now, the beautiful Latina, Florida Judge Marilyn Millian will complete her 2013 season on People's Court; she will have served as longest arbiter over the series with 12 and a half seasons. Most of all, I no longer underestimate the timing of God and His miracles. There are more miracles out there...and more to come for Jesus Christ to show us that we can walk on water too.
"With God’s power working in us, God can do much, much more than anything we can ask or imagine" (Ephesians 3:20, New Century Version).
