The Peltier family and their beloved dog Rex were reunited Monday after seven long months. Blake Peltier recognized his dog while watching the Houston Local 2 news one night. His father is quoted as saying, “Two weeks after I prayed for this dog we got a miracle. He showed up on TV."
Rex went missing late one night in February and his family tried everything they could think of to find him. They contacted local shelters, put up signs, circulated emails to the neighborhood, posted on social media sites and responded to every call about a possible sighting. Blake’s father Bob, Rex’s fishing buddy, resorted to prayer when things seemed bleak and a miracle happened.
Rex appeared in the broadcast about a missing local fisherman who was found deceased. The man’s boat was found adrift with Rex onboard. The newscast showed Rex in a kennel at the shelter, Blake immediately recognized him by the scar on his nose. Blake contacted authorities and had to hire an attorney and go to court where a judge ruled custody of Rex back to Blake. The Peltiers provided vet records and photos as proof but they have also volunteered a DNA test to prove that Rex is their dog who fathered one litter of puppies.
Meanwhile Rex is happy at home playing Frisbee in the back yard and looking forward to his next fishing trip with Grandpa Bob. Blake said, “When he got in he knew it was me and he licked me on the cheek you know, and held his head back and you knew he was happy to see me. I feel like he's just, we were meant to be. Like soul mates."
