Minorities in our communities have always complained from bias; they are very sensitive to any word of criticizing from a different culture. They strive to have all of their civil rights and to have equal opportunities in their careers. Minorities find it difficult to reach their goals especially in their careers, because the majorities have dominant control over their rights. Day after day, minorities feel overwhelmed from the surrounding difficulties in their lives.
A real story of a newly graduated young lady, a U.S. citizen with a diverse cultural background looked forward to find a job in her area of specialty. She submitted her resume to apply for several job openings that matched her career of choice, but she did not receive any invitation to an interview for 18 months. Finally, she was invited for an interview, and she was asked many questions. She waited a long time to hear feedback, but she did not get any response.
After two years, she received another invitation for an interview. She was hired with a lower compensation agreement than the other employees with the same experience and education. She began her job and was very happy. She did all her best to implement all of her job tasks according to the policies and the procedures of the company. She was compliant with the rules, and she put all of her efforts to do her job accurately. After five months, she felt that her efforts were minimized by her colleagues and supervisor; regardless of what she was doing to please them. They criticized her work, and changed her job description by adding additional tasks that were not in the agreement. She did not complain, and she accepted their actions.
One day, after six months, she was shocked when another young lady came for training for her position. They laid her off without a reason and hired the other young lady, because she is from their culture.
She prayed and read the Holy Book Quran, translated verse 49:13 “Oh you men! Surely We have created you from a male and a female, and made you tribes and families that you might come to know each other; The most honorable of you with Allah is the one among you most careful (of his duty); surely Allah is Knowing, Aware.” M. H. Shakir and in the Quran T.V. 4:58 “Surely Allah Commands you to make over trust to their owners and that when you judge between people you judge with justice; surely Allah admonishes you with what is excellent; surely Allah is Seeing, Hearing” M. H. Shakir
Then she found a state job, but they laid her off due to budget cuts. Now, she works in small businesses after she got tired from not finding a job in her area of specialty.
