On Tuesday, the Fredericksburg City Council accepted the Hagerstown, Maryland, baseball project with a unanimous vote. The Hagerstown Suns, owned by Bruce Quinn, is set to move into a new stadium in the area. Residents of Fredericksburg are excited by the possible move. One local shopper in 7-11 stated, “I’d like to see the stadium get built and bring in jobs to Fredericksburg.”
A large, multipurpose stadium construction proposal was put in front of the council. The stadium is to be built in Celebrate Virginia South off of I-95 in Fredericksburg. Along with the council’s approval, project plans will be final only after more steps in development are taken. These will be over the next two months. More public hearings are expected.
Local businessman and investor, Ron Rosner, founder of Rosner Auto Group, has also announced that he is investing in the stadium deal and is purchasing naming rights for the stadium. The stadium may host games, concerts, and other activities as well as offer over 100 new jobs to the area.
