Minnetonka Skippers beat Eden Prairie Eagles in overtime

There were no -40 wind chills at TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis Saturday morning as fans flocked to the stadium's center sections to see future Gopher Sydney Baldwin game-winning goal with 1:09 left in overtime to lead the Minnetonka Skippers to a 2-1 win over the Eden Prairie Eagles in the High school Hockey Faceoff in Minneapolis.

Playing on a specially constructed rink in the center of the football field, fans got a close view of the action similar to their hometown arenas.

The Skippers, ranked second in Class AA and coming off a shut out loss to the top ranked Hopkins Royals scored the lone first period goal on the power play. Presley Norby's shot was save by Eagle goalie Whitney Padgett and Diana Draayer tapped in the rebound.

Neither team scored in the second period. In the third period, eight ranked Eden Prairie sent the game into overtime as Angie Hepplemann centered the puck to Anna Johnson and she scored with :51.4 remaining.

Minnetonka had a golden opportunity to win the game in overtime with Eden Prairie's Josie Olson serving a two minute body checking penalty.and Baldwin made the most of it, scoring the game winner from the center slot.

The Skippers improved their record to 15-2-1 and will take on the Edina Hornets on Tuesday, January 14 at Braemar Arena at 7 PM. The Eagles fell to 12-6 and will host the Duluth Northern Stars, also on the 14th at 7 PM.
