Matt Moulson beat Jakub Kindl to the front of the net and re-directed a shot by Jonas Brodin past Jimmy Howard to give the Minnesota Wild a 4-3 overtime victory over the Detroit Red Wings Sunday at Joe Louis Arena.
After a lackluster performance resulted in a one-goal loss Saturday at home to the Red Wings, the Wild dominated the game for most of the 62 minutes and 15 seconds.
The Wild (37-24-11) came to play from the opening face off and were clearly the better team. However, a pair of fortunate bounces - one on the power play and one to set up a breakaway - allowed Gustav Nyquist to give the Red Wings a 2-0 lead after one period.
Jason Pominville started the come back for the Wild with a power play tally at the 11:57 mark of the second period.
Charlie Coyle and Zach Parise crashed the net and scored a pair of goals one minute and 35 seconds apart to give the Wild their first lead of the game.
The Red Wings (33-24-14) forced overtime just past the midway point of the third period when Tomas Tatar rifled a wrist shot past Ilya Bryzgalov.
The Wild extended their lead over the Phoenix Coyotes to six points for the top wild card spot in the Western Conference and eight points up on the Dallas Stars for a playoff spot.
