The Minnesota Wild have few roster spots with the emergence of their young stars. However, a few players still need to supplement the roster. The Wild enter the offseason with 14 unrestricted free agents and eight restricted free agents.
Here is restricted free agent forward Kristopher Foucault.
2013-14 Team(s): Iowa Wild (AHL)
2013-14 Statistics: 58 games played, 11 goals, 11 assists, 22 points, 0 rating, 35 penalty minutes, 2 power play goals, 122 shots on goal
Qualifying Offer: $605,000
Outlook: Foucault has a goal scoring history. He topped 20 goals in each of his last seasons with the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League. In the AHL, it has been a slow transition to the professional ranks. He has 30 goals in 158 games spanning three seasons. According to Hockey’s Future talent analysis, “With good size and the ability to play at both ends of the ice, Foucault has the potential to be a power forward in the NHL.” They believe he will be able to “put up some points at the AHL level given the right opportunity.”
The Wild doesn’t have a lot of high-end offensive prospects in Iowa. Foucault can play a top-six role and thrive with patience. Offering him a qualifying offer and re-signing him make sense for the depth of the Wild.
