The Minnesota Wild have few roster spots with the emergence of their young stars. However, a few players still need to supplement the roster. The Wild enter the offseason with 14 unrestricted free agents and eight restricted free agents.
Here is unrestricted free agent forward Dany Heatley.
2013-14 Statistics: 76 games played, 12 goals, 16 assists, 28 points, minus-18 rating, 18 penalty minutes, 4 power play goals, 2 game-winning goals, 110 shots on goal (regular season); 11 games played, 1 goal, 5 assists, 6 points, plus-6 rating, 4 penalty minutes, 9 shots on goal (postseason)
Outlook: There may not be an easier offseason decision for General Manager Chuck Fletcher than to let Heatley go when free agency begins on July 1.
The 33-year-old was a very unpopular player among the fan base, and for good reason, for most of last season. However, the veteran forward finished ninth on the team in points during the regular season and picked up his play in the playoffs. He is not the goal scorer he once was - eight seasons with more than 25 goals, all before joining the Wild prior to the 2011-12 season.
The Wild will have $7.5 million in additional cap space with his contract expiring this summer. That money will be spent on another piece and the young emerging stars.
