2010 NFL draft in review: Minnesota Vikings

The great thing about being a really good football team is it gives the front office flexibility in the draft. The Vikings traded out of the first round, and were still able to address their needs. Being a good team they can also look for very specific guys for very specific roles. With their first pick in the draft 34th overall the Vikes took CB Chris Cook. At 6-2 and 212 pound he instantly becomes the biggest corner at the Vikings roster, and he will be counted on to make a splash as a rookie on special teams.

What are the Minnesota Vikings needs heading into 2010?

The Minnesota Vikings are going to have to prepare for the day when Brett Favre actually retires, and means it. That day will most likely not come in 2010 but they need to prepare themselves for that eventuality. With the 20th pick in the first round, it seems like a perfect opportunity to take a young QB let him mentor under Favre and Tavaris Jackson and see what is what down the road.

Draft Day decison makers: Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings will be led on draft day by Vice President of Player Personnel Rick Speilman. He is in charge of all player personnel issues and heads the college and pro scouting departments. He will be joined in the war room by Rob Brzezinski Vice President of Football Operations, George Paton Director of Player Personnel, Scott Studwell Director of College Scouting, and of course their full complement of scouts.

2009 NFL draft one year later: Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings only had five picks in the 2009 draft, yet they were able to score a significant contributor with each one of those picks. Of course when your first pick ends up being the offensive rookie of the year, things could not get much better. The Vikings front office delivered a solid draft class and it one of the many reasons they had so much success during the 2009 season. One year ago I gave the Vikings very high marks for tuning in a draft class that not only addressed their primary needs, but found great talent at a number of positions

2009 NFL season in review: Minnesota Vikings

What can we say about a team one good play away from making the Super Bowl? We can say that over achieved, we can say that Brett Favre proved he had something left in the tank, and we can say they have all the pieces to do it again. Of course if Favre comes back. This is an excellent team, they have all the pieces. A great offense, a very good defense, but just like the Green Bay Packers they are going to have to land Favre’s replacement in this April’s draft. Other than that the big concern for fans of this team is their stadium situation. Will they stay or will the city of angels claim their second Minnesota based pro sports team?

Should the Vikings trade for McNabb?

The Philadelphia Eagles have three QB’s on their roster, and it looks like one or two of them will not be there come the start of the 2010 NFL season. It seems that they would be willing to listen to trade offers for any of them, and it looks like the Minnesota Vikings are going to have to pick up the phone and see if they can work a deal. I cannot believe that these words are going to come out of my mouth, but the Vikings would be better served if Favre came back for the 2010 season. If he does not the Vikings are in a little bit of a pinch.

Favre costs another team a Super Bowl trip

Usually I try not to kick a guy when he is down, but after last night’s press conference I will take a great amount of pleasure in kicking Brett Favre while he is down. Mostly because Favre doesn’t think he is down, last night he tried to make the argument that no matter what happens in the future he will leave the game as a champion, and leave the game while that he is still on top.  While he is a champion, this is hardly leaving the league on top. Even if he were to return to the NFL next season and win a Super Bowl, the last three seasons have left a taint on his legacy.

It really is the Brett Favre show after all

Brad Childress is the Head Coach of the Minnesota Vikings right? What he says goes right? Of course when your Brett Favre’s ego, you do whatever you want, regardless of what is good for your team. When you Brett Favre you can delude yourself into thinking that your still in your prime when your 40, and when your Brett Favre you can retire every spring and hold the NFL world hostage as you figure out what you want to do, because the morons that run ESPN aren’t smart enough to figure out that this is all about Brett Favre and his massive ego.

What is Favre’s legacy now?

Brett Favre became the only QB to beat all 32 current NFL teams last night in an impressive win against his old team the Green Bay Packers. Many media outlets are quick to say that this performance cements Favre as one of the best QB’s in all NFL history. However many sports fans don’t quite see it that way. While each fan has their own top ten list of great NFL QB’s Favre still barely makes my top ten list of the greatest NFL QB’s.

Vikings and Favre may be a good fit

The Minnesota Vikings may have found their man. This is clearly a team that could go far in the 2009 NFL playoffs, but they needed a strong veteran QB. So far that role seems to be filled by Brett Favre. However it is still very early in the pre-season and Brett has a history of falling apart in the second half of NFL seasons past.

Favre destroys Vikings locker room

Before any of this mess started, many NFL reporters had the Minnesota Vikings picked to have a very good season. With a n excellent defense and strong running game it seemed the at the Vikings had the inside track for a strong Super Bowl run. Enter one Brett Favre, and it looks like this team is unraveling before our very eyes.

Favre further erodes his legacy

Brett Favre put all the rumors to rest today and signed a contract with the Minnesota Vikings. He will be the Vikings starter, and this probably makes the Vikings a much better football team. However this is a move not without risk, because no matter what Favre once was, today he is a 40 year old QB with a partially torn rotator cuff. He flamed out last season with the New York Jets, and he has signed with the Vikings as a way to get back at Packers General manager Ted Thompson.

Vikings left to clean up Favre mess

Someone from the Minnesota Vikings front office, coaching staff, or roster of players made a very large tactical error in their courtship of one Brett Favre. This is one of those things where the team, as a whole, should have said nothing to the press, and went about their pursuit of Favre in private. Now that Favre has decided, at least for now, to stay retired the Vikings have a huge mess to clean up. In all reality they Vikings may have just ruined their 2009 season.

2009 Minnesota Vikings draft analysis

Heading into the 2009 draft the Minnesota Vikings have four big needs, they needed a veteran QB, another wide out to help their QB situation, a Right Tackle to help protect their QB, and a replacement for aging CB Antoine Winfield.
