Outlook: Dean and Mitchell both completed their third seasons with the Vikings in 2013. Both were very good special teams players. Neither proved capable of playing significant time on defense.
Both players signed as free agents in 2011; Dean as an undrafted rookie and Mitchell as a four journeyman veteran.
Both may be pushed out of Minnesota because of the logjam the team has of backup linebackers. The Vikings need starting linebackers, not reserves. The Vikings have three linebackers drafted in the last two drafts and one signed recently that are more than capable of replacing Dean and Mitchell.
Neither are likely to be re-signed, but Dean has a greater chance of remaining in Minnesota.
