Outlook: Bishop has shown the ability to be a very good NFL linebacker. However, he has shown the ability to find the training room.

He has missed at least three consecutive games in three consecutive seasons from three separate injuries.

In 2011, Bishop missed three games in December because of a calf injury. The following season, he was placed on injured reserve because of a hamstring injury before the season began. He did not play a game and was released the following offseason.

The Vikings, in need of experienced linebackers, signed him before training camp. He missed some training camp time due to a groin injury and did not get into the starting lineup until Week 6. His time in the starting lineup lasted less than a game. During the second quarter of the Vikings’ loss to the Carolina Panthers at Mall of America Field, Bishop injured his knee on a run play and was placed on season-ending injured reserve.

The Vikings need him to be on the field, but cannot trust him for a 16-game season. Despite needing linebacker help, the Vikings are unlikely to re-sign Bishop. His injury history will likely make it hard for any team to sign him.
