Minnesota Vikings draft analysis: Kendall James

Position: Cornerback

Number: 40

College: Maine

Height: 5-11

Weight: 180

2014 Statistics: 36 total tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss, 2 interceptions, 9 pass breakups, 1 blocked kick

My analysis: In limited viewing, James showed his great speed and hands. He is not very big and lacks the physicality to make up for it. He needs to improve his tackling technique and overall consistency.

NFL.com’s Nolan Nawrocki’s analysis: Undersized, extremely short-armed, feisty corner with potential to contribute as a sub-package defender. Offers appealing fluidity, speed and ball skills, though he will always face size and strength limitations.

The skinny: James will have an opportunity to come right in and make an impact. The Vikings got very little from their cornerbacks last season. James may need a year or two to adjust to playing football at the highest level. The best chance he has to make the Vikings roster is on special teams.
