The Minnesota Vikings enjoyed a surprising 2012 season. The team enters the offseason with higher expectations and some decisions to make.
The decisions begin with its own free agents.
Here is linebacker Jasper Brinkley.
Number: 54
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 252
College: South Carolina
Experience: 3 years
2012 Stats: 16 games played (15 starts), 99 tackles, 3 passes defensed, 3 forced fumbles.
Career Stats: 48 games played (19 starts), 147 tackles, 3 passes defensed, 4 forced fumbles.
2013 Outlook: The Vikings had high hopes for Brinkley, but a hip injury forced him to miss all of the 2011 season. He was already known as a downhill physical tackler, but the injury limited his athleticism even more. He is just a situational linebacker, playing in running situations. The Vikings need to upgrade its overall depth at linebacker. Brinkley could be re-signed as a reserve, but whether or not he could help on special teams is a question mark. The Vikings have two free agent linebackers. I believe one will be re-signed, but they will have to earn a spot on next season's roster.
