The Minnesota Vikings are entering the 2012 offseason with a lot of question marks.
The Vikings can rebuild by signing its own free agents, outside free agents and with its expected 10 draft picks.
The first part of the process is signing its own free agents.
Here is linebacker Xavier Adibi.
Number: 57
Height: 6-2
Weight: 242
College: Virginia Tech
Experience: 4 years
College Highlights: He earned All-America honors in 2007…finished his collegiate career with 291 tackles, 11 sacks and five forced fumbles.
Transactions: 4/27/2008 – drafted by the Houston Texans in the fourth round (118th overall) of the draft; 9/04/2011 – claimed off waivers by the Vikings.
Pros: He is a quick and fast linebacker with great range…can get around blocks and make big plays…takes well-timed chances to break up plays…makes plays with speed, good instincts and aggressiveness.
Cons: He is not a physical defender…allows big plays by making dumb mistakes…tries to do too much and gets caught out of position…once engaged, has trouble shedding the blocker.
2012 Outlook:He was active for only four games last season after the Vikings claimed him on waivers at the end of the preseason. His speed and athleticism give him upside, but the mental mistakes and inconsistency make you wonder if he will ever reach his full potential. The Vikings are in the midst of rebuilding its roster. Last season, the Vikings linebackers were equally as responsible for the poor pass defense as the secondary. He could be re-signed, but needs to serve a specialty role like third-and-long passing situations and special teams. He is an intriguing prospect.
