After a week off, Minnesota resumes their season with Big Ten play versus the Penn State Nittany Lions at Mariucci Arena on Friday and Saturday nights. Friday’s contest will be seen on BTN/BTN2Go.com with Matt Shepard and Ben Clymer on the call for the 8pm contest (Mark Strobel will be the roving reporter) while Saturday’s contest on NBC Sports Network (at 7pm) will be called by Dan Kelly and Clymer.
Let’s give you a look at some vital numbers.
5: Five Minnesota seniors are playing in their final home series at Mariucci Arena this weekend. Nate Condon, Jake Parenteau, Justin Holl, Tom Serratore, and Michael Shibrowski are those celebrated seniors.
3: In the first two games of the all-time series versus Penn State earlier in the year, three players led the Gophers in points, each with three. Ben Marshall, Travis Boyd, and Justin Kloos each recorded a goal and two assists.
45: In sixty-eight career games played, Minnesota’s Adam Wilcox has a 45-12-10 record. Wilcox is up for the Hobey Baker Award and the Mike Richter Award, which is awarded to the nation’s top goaltender.
6: Freshman forward Vinni Lettieri has six points on the season, with five of them coming on assists.
115: Of the four classes of Gophers, the junior class (with six Gophers, the second most of the four classes) has one hundred and fifteen points on the season, twelve more than the freshman class, coming second with 103.
12: Twelve total goals were scored in Minnesota’s two games with Penn State earlier in the season. Both contests turned good for the road team as Minnesota defeated Penn State 3-2 and 5-2.
83: In total, Minnesota took eighty-three shots during the two games with Penn State in University Park, PA, outshooting the Nittany Lions 83-55. Minnesota was 2-11 on the PP in the series.
