The Minnesota Golden Gopher football team signed 22 players Wednesday on National Signing Day.
The number of signees has increased to 24 since and the number may continue to increase before the season starts.
Now we need to get to know the recruits and how they will fit into the Gopher program.
Here is RB David Cobb.
High School: Ellison High School
Hometown: Killeen, Texas
Height: 5-11
Weight: 208
My analysis: He finds the holes…shows he can break tackles and fight through contact…has the speed to take it the distance every play…should be a perfect running back for the multi-formation offense the Gophers will run...He is listed as an athlete, but his best position is running back.
Gopher head coach Jerry Kill’s take: He is a great get for us. He's a three-year starter for Killeen Ellison. I know that program and that's hard to do there. He's also a two-year starter as the shooting guard on the basketball team. We really like David's athleticism and his character. He's got good size and thickness to him. Plus, he has good speed. He's a 10.7 guy in the 100. He could help us in a couple different areas.
GopherSports.com overview: Ranked as the No. 60 running back in the nation by ESPN/Scouts Inc…listed as the No. 98 running back prospect in the nation by Scout.com…three-star rankings from Rivals.com, Scout.com and ESPN/Scouts Inc…strong, downhill runner…large, well-built frame with good body structure…one-cut and go runner with above average burst…could fit in well on either side of the ball…tough football player, powers through contact.
High School: Currently attends Ellison High School…helped lead team to a 4-6 record in 2010…named All District 12-5A following his senior season…was a three-year starter for the Eagles…rushed for nearly 3,000 yards in his high school career, going for 2,946 yards and 35 touchdowns…ran for nearly 1,400 yards with 17 touchdowns as a senior…had back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons, rushing for 1,209 yards and 14 TDs as a junior…coached by Buddy McBryde.
