The Minnesota Golden Gophers play the Purdue Boilermakers in their 2014 Homecoming game. Last season's Homecoming game did not go as planned. This season, the Gophers hope to avoid another embarrassing loss.
2013 Record: 1-11 overall (0-8 Big Ten)
2013 Offensive Statistics: 14.9 points scored per game, 282.9 total offensive yards per game, 67.1 rushing yards per game, 215.8 passing yards per game, 22 turnovers, 14 sacks
2013 Defensive Statistics: 38 points allowed per game, 459.9 total offensive yards allowed per game, 235.4 rushing yards allowed per game, 224.5 passing yards allowed per game, 20 turnovers forced, 38 sacks allowed
Head Coach: Darrell Hazell (17-21 record in three seasons as a head coach, 1-11 in one season at Purdue)
Key Offensive Players: QB Danny Etling, RB Akeem Hunt, WR Cameron Posey, TE Justin Sinz, WR DeAngelo Yancey
Key Defensive Players: CB Anthony Brown, S Taylor Richards, DB Frankie Williams
Outlook: On paper, this is the easiest conference game on the schedule for the Gophers. The Boilermakers are in full rebuilding mode. A win over the Boilermakers should get the Gophers to bowl eligibility and a 6-1 record.
The Boilermakers have played four bottom-tier bowl games since 2004, which was the last time they finished ranked in the top 25 at the conclusion of a season. Darrell Hazell was hired prior to last season after Danny Hope brought the program near the bottom of the Big Ten. The Boilermakers are still a long way from becoming relevant in the Big Ten race.
