Minnesota Golden Gopher football recruiting report; RB Berkley Edwards

Minnesota Golden Gopher head coach Jerry Kill wants guys with the right the character, attitude and passion. He also wants good football players that fit his system.

The Minnesota Golden Gopher football team signed 19 players on National Signing Day that the coaching staff hopes will fit those traits over their remaining eligibility.

Here is one of those recruits; running back Berkley Edwards.

High School: Chelsea (Mich.)

Hometown: Novi, Mich.

Height: 5-9

Weight: 190

My analysis: Limited viewing - very fast - gets into the open field and makes plays - elusive and tough to tackle - breaks arm tackles - true playmaker - does not shy away from contact.

ESPN's analysis: Quick to attack the hole and dart through the smaller creases - often buries behind his line and gets what the play provides - not afraid to take it into the teeth of the defense - will get through tight creases with quickness and by warding off closing tacklers with strength - low center of gravity aids his balance and power - shows he can take a hit and keep forward momentum - spins and bounces off first contact and is difficult to arm-tackle when gains downhill momentum and runs behind his pads.

GopherSports.com Overview: Earned a three-star ranking from Rivals.com and Scout.com - Rated as the No. 63 running back in the nation and the No. 15 overall prospect in Michigan by ESPN - Father, Stan, played college football at Michigan and spent six seasons in the NFL - Brother, Braylon, played college football at Michigan and has played eight seasons in the NFL - Earned First Team All-State honors as a senior - Rushed for 1,329 yards and 21 touchdowns on 204 carries in 2012 - Also caught 15 passes for 105 yards and a touchdown - Led Chelsea to a 6-4 overall record in 2012 including a 5-1 mark in division play - Coached by Bradford Bush.
